Star-studded league debutants Police face acid test against league giants K’Ogalo
When they were unveiled as one of the three newly-promoted teams in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, Kenya Police Fc was touted as one of the potential surprise packages.
There was a glimmer of hope that the law enforcers will give big-timers a run for their money when they went down fighting against Kakamega Homeboyz in their first fixture on October 26 when they fell 1-0.
Since then, Police have only won one match, against Nzoia Sugar 3-1, with the rest of the three against Tusker, Nairobi City Stars, and Police ending in defeats.
This is apparently what precipitated Police to sign some of the most experienced players among them former immediate former Gor Mahia winger Cliffton Miheso and Musa Mohammed.
Unlike Miheso who parted ways with Gor recently, Mohammed left the Green Army about three years ago to join paid ranks in Zambia before returning home where he was lured by the law enforcers.
However, those are not the talking points but whether the two key players shall return to haunt their former employer when Police cross swords with Gor in the first match of the double-header at Kasarani Annex today.
Despite Police not attaining the desired results since joining the top-flight league, Miheso and Mohammed have proved an integral part of the team and are least expected to dish out any favors to Gor.
All in all, there are eight fixtures on the card but it would be fair to allude that the highlight is the one between battle-hardened sides Kariobangi Sharks and Tusker in Kasarani on Sunday.
The sharks are currently on cloud nine after recording the highest winning margin in their 6-0 annihilation of Mathare United last weekend but they will certainly find Tusker a different proposition altogether with the latter also coming into the match with victory over Wazito.
As for Mathare, the loss to Sharks was an embarrassment to the yellow and gree memorabilia and nothing short of a win in their match against Bidco United still in Kasarani will help appease their disenchanted fans.
However, Mathare coach Ezekiel Akwana remained upbeat despite the huge slump.
“Obviously, that was a very bad outing but let bygones be bygones. The match against Bidco is a must-win for us and I must say my players are determined to make amends,’’ said Akwana.
