Speculation is rife Football Kenya Federation (FKF) wants Tusker FC’s South Sudanese striker David Majak to change citizenship to feature for the national team Harambee Stars.

According to an impeccable source within FKF who declined to be named, Stars’ handlers are drooling over the services of the goal-scoring machine and especially this time when the national team is preparing for the World Cup qualifiers that begin in June.

The 20-year-old is eligible to play for Kenya  having lived in the country most of his young life and has not featured for the South Sudanese senior side.

“He (Majak) has electrified the top tier league and the federation cannot wait for him to change citizenship and feature for Stars. He is exceptional and that cannot be ignored,’’ said the source.

The much sought after towering striker has joined Swedish second tier league side Kalmar FF on a six months loan.

Majak has been a consistent performer for Tusker and attracted the Red Brothers attention and who have snapped him with an option of making the deal permanent.

‘’We wish to confirm that our striker Majak has left for Sweden on a six-month loan with division side Kalmar FF,’’ Tusker said on their official website.

Majak, a scoring machine for Tusker in the Betking Premier League, had been one of the fastest rising players in the top-tier action and at one time, grapevine had it that Tanzanian giants Simba were on his radar.

Should he change allegiance and become Kenyan, Majak will be the second player to do so after former Sofapaka Congolese striker Bob Mugalia who made 16 appearances for the national team and played for more than 70 minutes in each match.

Another player who had expressed his interest to play for Kenya was another ex-Sofapaka hotshot Ugandan Umaru Kasumba.

‘’If I get an opportunity to play for Kenya, I would be willing to do anything because I did not play for the Uganda senior national team.

I only played for the youth teams meaning that I am still capable of changing my citizenship and playing for any national side,’’ Kasumba once told a Kenyan daily.

Last November, Majak nearly joined another Swedish club Elfsborg but the deal fell through as Tusker refused to let him go on a free transfer.

‘’This time round, it will not be on a free transfer as we have received a fee which we cannot disclose,’’ said Tusker chairman Daniel Aduda.

Majak, a box-to-box striker, started shining in 2018 while featuring for little-known Kapenguria Heroes in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Championship in which he not only won the Golden Boot award but was also declared the best player.

Aduda said the player officially ended his contract with the Brewers and has the blessings of the club to pursue greener pastures.

Aduda further stated that in the event that Majak does not get a lengthy contract with Kalmar FF, Tusker will be ready to receive him back.
