The Talanta Hela Rally Ladies team comprising of four drivers, Pauline Shegu, Tash Tundo, Caroline Gatimu, and Jeniffer Malik, all with female navigators, are raring to go and expect to make an impact during the WRC Safari Rally event in Naivasha from March 28.

The ladies took part in last year’s event and would be keen to improve on their performance this time round.

“We as the Talanta Hela Rally Ladies want to say a big thank you to the Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba and Principal Secretary Peter Tum for the support they have accorded us for the second time to participate in this year’s WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha next month.

"The Kenya Kwanza government has made a very big impact on our lives, especially in the motorsport space. This is the second time we are being sponsored by the government and we don’t take it for granted and we are here to prove to the world that even women can do it better,” the drivers said in a joint statement.

Pauline Shegu who will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo 10 at the event, said: “As a team leader of the Talanta Hela Rally ladies, I feel so happy when I see these women gearing up for this year’s WRC Safari Rally with the theme ‘Easter na Rally’.

"We are all set and ready to see our team-branded Talanta Hela rally cars being flagged off at the ramp by His Excellency President William Ruto once again this time at the iconic venue KICC and finishing at the Hells Gate on the final day of action. We truly appreciate CS Ababu for this support and we promise not to disappoint him, the PS, the ministry, and our partners for believing in us,” they said.

Shegu said rallying was about finishing and finishing safely.

“We are all looking forward to being at the finishing ramp. So far, we are mentally and physically prepared, we hope to have all the cars ready and the service team ready, cars, of course, are still being worked on,” she added.
