With the on going discourse as to who is a legit degree holder in Kenya and who is simply out of the pecking order when it comes to academic certification, People Daily explores Kenyans who legitimately hold degree certificates, this time - Sports Stars.

Michael Olunga

Having schooled at Baba Dogo and later on in Upper Hill School where he scored an A - in the 2012 KCSE exams, Olunga is one brilliant chap.

The Al Saad sharpshooter graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Geospatial Engineering from Technical University of Kenya.

Janet Jepkosgei (Eldoret Express).


Dubbed Eldoret Express, Janet Jepkosgei will forever be engraved in Kenya’s athletics as one of the best.

Jepkosgei made Kenyan History on 28 August 2007, where she won gold in the World Championship 800M final in Osaka, becoming the first female Kenyan middle distance runner to achieve gold over 800m.

Collins Injera


Nicknamed PapaLocole, Injera graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Multimedia University.

In 2010, he was awarded the Presidential Order of Golden Warriors (OGW) alongside his brother Kayange for their performance in the 2008-2009 World Rugby Series.

Injera was also part of the history-making team that won the 2016 Singapore Sevens where he was named player of the final.

Julius Yego


In 2014, he became the first Kenyan to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in a field event.

At the 2015 World Championships he won the gold medal with a throw of 92.72m, becoming the first Kenyan to win a World Championships gold medal in a field event. He won silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Yego, a Sergeant attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigations, graduated with a Bachelors in Public Policy and Administration at Kenyatta University.

Eliud Kipchoge


Marathon great Eliud Kipchoge received an Honorary Degree of Science from Laikipia University.

The University of Exeter also bestowed Kipchoge with an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The university recognises Kipchoge as the greatest marathon runner of all time.
