Tusker ready to break the bank for Sakari’s signature
Freshly crowned Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League (FKF PL) champions Tusker have embarked on a serious recruitment drive immediately the local transfer window opened as they seek to dominate the local league again next season as well as the CAF Champions League where they will be representing the country.
Today, the club’s Chief Executive Charles Obiny told People Sport that highly rated Harambee Stars full back Daniel Sakari was one of their main targets as they enter the transfer market.
Sakari who has had an outstanding season with Kariobangi Sharks would add the depth on the star studded Tusker squad where he would have to fight for a starting place against Hillary Wandera, Jimmy Mbugua and Kevin Monyi.
“It is true that we have started talks with Sakari and a few more players after the transfer windo officially opened today,” Obiny told People Sport today.
He dismissed reports from a section of social media that they were in talks with AFC Leopards’ goal getter Elvis Rupia and Gor Mahia winger Clifford Miheso.
“We are not eyeing the services of Rupia, because we have already signed two strikers, one from Uganda and another one from Tanzania.
I can confirm the arrivals of strikers Deogracious Ojock from Bulls FC in the Ugandan league and Joshua Ibrahim from Ken Gold FC in the Tanzanian top league, we have also acquired the services of Tanzania national team central defender Carlos Kirenge who has joined us from Mungo FC and we already have their International Transfer Certificates,” said Obiny.
He added: “Locally the only players we have completed their move are former Harambee Stars custodian Patrick Matasi from St Georges of Ethiopia and defender Charles Momanyi from Gor Mahia.”
Obiny also admitted to be chasing the signature of Kakamega Homeboyz’s Shammy Kibwana who scored eight goals in July, Kariobangi Sharks’ highly rated custodian Brian Bwire, AFC Leopards defender Clyde Senaji and former Tusker youth player John Njuguna who currently plays for league rivals Ulinzi Stars as an offensive midfielder.
“We will be meeting the players tomorrow (today) with the coach and see if we can seal their moves. We have been talking and things are looking ok so far,” Obiny said.
The arrival of Matasi and the possible signing of Bwire means an uncertain future for current goal keepers Michael Wanjala, Robert Mboya and Rwandese international Emery Mvuyekure.
