Vihiga Queens, Ulinzi Starlets’ sheer determination to wrestle for this year’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League title was on display as the current two top sides battled a one-all draw on Sunday.

With Vihiga on top and unbeaten while Ulinzi chases them closely in second place, the battle for the league’s supremacy was surely primed to spark fireworks last Sunday at Mumias Sports Complex.

It served the purpose with Vihiga almost winning the due before unrelenting Ulinzi fought teeth and nails to share the spoils at full time.

They became the second team this season to take a point from the legacy makers – Vihiga.

Another team that has earned a priceless draw against the legacy makers is high-flying and now second-placed Gaspo Women who managed a 0-0 draw in January.

After Sunday’s match against Ulinzi, Vihiga feel hard done by the draw, but coach Boniface Nyamunyamu said he would rather be happy with the single point won, even though he would have wished to collect all the three points from the tie.

“We lost concentration in the last minute of the game but was a good fight. I am contented with the results because we still maintained the unbeaten run,” Vihiga Queen’s coach Nyamunyamu told People Sport.

Driving seat

Phelistus Kadari gave Vihiga a 40th-minute lead but Silyvia Rasoha equalised in the 85th minute.

However, Vihiga is still in the driving seat with 35 points from 11 wins and two draws, while Gaspo Women who humbled Kayole Starlets 4-1 on Saturday ens moved up to second with 28 points. Ulinzi now dropped to third on 26 points after the Vihiga draw.

Defending champions Thika Queens maintained their perfect start to the second leg of the season by beating Bunyore Starlets 3-0 on Sunday.

The trio of Stella Anyango, Wendy Atieno, and Lorenita Lupemba’s helped the Thika side to maintain their fourth place in the league with 26 points from eight wins, two draws and three defeats.

Transnzoia Falcons bounced back from last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Zetech Sparks to beat much-improved Kangemi ladies 4-3 at ASK Grounds Kitale.

Falcons now maintain their fifth place in the league with 25 points from seven wins, four draws and two defeats.

In Sunday’s match, once again, Fasila Adhiambo was the toast of the match scoring a hat trick.

Her efforts came short in helping Kangemi salvage a point as Elizabeth Nafula, Martha Karani’s brace and Noel Amutata’s fourth goal ensured that the Falcons came out top in the thrilling encounter.
