Relegation-threatened Vihiga Bullets yesterday upset the form book by dispatching Wazito 4-2 in a six-goal thriller in a FKF Premier League match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Bullets meant business when they grabbed the lead in the 20th minute before promising forward Eric Otieno equalised for Wazito four minutes later.

Elly Asieche would later restore Wazito’s lead before Vihiga Bullets, after advice from Coach Juma Abdallah, fell Wazito with goals in the 35th, 67th and 90th minutes.

Following the win, Bullets, who were smarting from a 4-0 defeat by Police FC going into the fixture, have hauled themselves up from the basement of the league and are now in the 17th position above Mathare United.

Juma, who was unveiled as Bullets coach last November was elated at the manner his charges carried themselves against the pre-match favourites.

“I’m happy that we have managed to dust ourselves up. I believe the dark days will soon be over.

Most of my players are still new and once we rope in the experienced lot in the transfer window, believe me we shall survive relegation,” offered Juma.

Hopes fade

Elsewhere at Kasarani Annex, former champions Gor Mahia ended a three-match winless streak by stopping Mathare United 1-0.

Both teams had a cagey start but it was Gor who settled into the match faster, George “Black berry”Odhiambo particularly a thorn in the Mathare’s defence in which Kennedy Ochieng’ was outstanding.

However, Mathare’s backline could not do much in the 56th minute against the run of play, Onyango Odhiambo found an opening to score for Gor with the Green ensemble doggedly holding onto the lead until the final whistle.

Before the strike, Mathare fashioned several scoring chances but could not convert any of them.

In the meantime, hopes of KCB reclaiming the league lead which they lost to Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday went up in smoke after a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bidco United in Utalii Grounds.

The results means KCB remains in the second position with 25 points ahead of Gor Mahia (25), Nairobi City Stars (25) and Bandari (23).

At the Nyayo National Stadium, Eugene Mukungula saved AFC Leopards from the jaws of defeat with the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Nzoia Sugar.

Kevin Juma shot Nzoia into the lead as early as the eighth minute before Mukangula came out of the blues in the 33rd minute to ensure that the match ended squarely.

At Thika Stadium, defending champions Tusker suffered a shock 1-0 defeat by Posta Rangers.

The Mailmen needed Bernard Ondiek’s 57th minute goal to pick maximum points.
