Vihiga Queen’s players and technical staff are to be feted for their exemplary performance in the 2022/23 FKF Women Premier League.

The recognition follows the decision made by Gaspo Women to call off the highly anticipated match that was set to take place over the weekend at the GEMS Cambridge Stadium, Nairobi.

Through their social media account, Gaspo wrote: “We as Gaspo Women Football Club, have decided not to participate in our final match against Vihiga Queens FC scheduled on Saturday, May 27.

“This decision has come to be considered due to a number of reasons. We, therefore, will give out a walkover to the above-mentioned opponents.”

The club’s assistant coach James Ombeng, told People Sport to reach the club’s chairman Edward Githua when reached for comment on the decision.

“On that matter, only the chairman has the details; contact him. He will brief you on what you want,” Ombeng said via phone.

The chairman confirmed that they had already given out a walkover to Vihiga Queens who were recently declared the winners of the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) trophy season 2022-2023.

“We have given a walkover to Vihiga Queens and we have already written to the federation indicating our concerns which I can’t share with the media,” Githua said.

Meanwhile, Kisumu All Starlets and Bunyore Starlets find themselves locked in a fierce battle to avoid relegation. They will be facing Trans Nzoia Falcons and Nakuru City Queens respectively.

Thika Queens, on the other hand, is gearing up for the final derby of the season as they host Zetech Sparks. Bragging rights are up for grabs as both teams aim to establish their dominance and carry it over into the next season.
