Wazito FC will be playing top tier football next season. The team survived a scare, but managed to scrap through the two legged play-offs on away goal rule after losing the second leg to hosts Murang’s Seals at the St. Sebastian Park in Muranga yesterday.

The two legged contest ended in a 4-4 aggregate after the first leg on Thursday ended 2-1 in favor of Wazito at the Thika Stadium. The result meant that the Francis Ambani-coached Wazito survived to play in the top tier for the third consecutive season courtesy of the away goal rule.

A brace by David Munyovi in the last few minutes of the first half gave the home team confidence. Wabwire netted a penalty in the 38th minute and nine minutes later slammed home from close range to take his tally of the day to two. Three first half goals seemed to favor the hosts with a lot of pressing coming from the likes of Nigerian import Fabian Adikiny and Wilson Kamau with the Wazito defense constantly being pulled open.

In the second half, Wazito canceled the deficit through Curtis Wekesa’s effort from outside the box in the 47th minute before Muranga Seal got a reprieve with Adikiny’s solo effort down the right hand side of the pitch. However, lapses in concentration had Wazito forward Michale Owino to bury home what would be the winner in the 83rd minute to sink the many fans at the Stadium. Even with pressure and last ditch efforts to get a winning goal,Wazito held steady and frustrated the opponents with some masterful defending led by Captain Johnstone Omurwa.
