Ten-man Wazito FC drew first blood albeit with a slim 2-1 first-leg win over National Super League side Murang’a Seal in the Football Kenya Federation-Premier League Playoff yesterday at the Thika Municipal Stadium.

Tyson Otieno was turned from hero to villain for Wazito following his dismissal in the 89th minute.

The former Mathare United midfielder opened the account for his side in the 23rd minute courtesy of a spot-kick in what was a cagey opening half. In the second half, Curtis Wekesa doubled the lead for Wazito in the 76th minute with a fine strike from the edge of the box following a poor clearance from the opponent's back line.

The second half which was more open and full of flow saw both sides attempting shots, especially from far angles.

In the 81st minute, Eric Balecho rescued the dreams of Seal with a lovely penalty as the Muranga side will look to turn things to their favour at the home turf of St. Sebastian Park this Sunday in Muranga County. Vincent Nyaberi’s charges gave a good account of themselves with a fantastic build-up player far cry from the tense opening stanza of the match.

Wazito, who have seen a huge chunk of their players quit in the off-season due to financial challenges, will be hoping to use their experience to stay alive in the contest that analysts believe is far from over.

The front trio of Fred Ambani’s side including Elly Asieche, Michael Owino and Hillary Otieno were guilty of missed opportunities.
