With only two days left to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) national elections, a beehive of activity has gripped the Electoral Board charged with running the exercise effectively.

With the campaign period having elapsed, candidates for the presidential and National Executive Committee seats now await their fate at the ballot in an exercise to be held at Safari Park Hotel in conformity with the Ministry of Health regulations due to Covid-19 restrictions.

As it stands, 87 delegates from across the selected leagues, football groups and 46 counties will take part in the exercise to vote for six positions including the FKF presidency and five NEC positions.

Five candidates seeking the top post will be in the ballot on Saturday after they were cleared by the Electoral Board last month.

The venue itself will be free of crowds as no supporters will be allowed and at the same time aspirants are only allowed to have one agent at the station while few accredited observers from the Media and the Sports Ministry will be allowed. The room itself will be spaced out and cleaned prior to the exercise.

Speaking to People Sport yesterday via phone, the FKF Electoral Board hairperson Kentice Tikolo said that all preparations were complete after they completed training the electoral clerks yesterday at the venue of the polls.

“We just need to make sure that the process is smooth for all so that we do not have issues like rejected votes in the ballot.

The Board had already done the final briefing for all aspirants on October 2 and I believe that they are all prepared for the big day.

As far as we are concerned, ballot boxes are ready and the five board members will be the official returning officers.

We anticipate all the 87 delegates to be ready for the exercise after briefing,” said Tikolo who also revealed that the process will be superseded by the FKF Special General Meeting whose main agenda will be voting.

Tikolo told People Sport that the Appeals Committee would be at hand to deal with any complaints arising after the polls in order to avoid another cancelation of the exercise after the Sports Disputes Tribunal cancelled initial two exercises.

“In case of any issues arising, there is a certified body ready to handle them as per the law.

From our end, we will ensure we have a controlled voting process checking every voter’s eligibility.

There will be various categories of voting and all persons must come with National Identity Cards to prove they have registered and also we will be checking the ballot papers.

We will be using the alphabetical order to run the polls so that is easier,” added Tikolo who also confirmed that they had engaged the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for technical support.
