Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit Kenya Police head coach Salim Babu has warned AFC Leopards to forget laying their hands on the Mozzart Bet Cup trophy this season.

The law enforcers will face Ingwe in the last four of the knockout competition after beating Sofapaka 4-0 in the quarter-finals. AFC reached the semis following a 3-1 win against Division One side Compel FC.

While AFC Leopards are fighting to win a trophy for the first time in 16 years, Police made history by reaching the semis for the first time, and according to Babu, they are ready to navigate their way to win the trophy, whose winner gets the ticket to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We have already decided and nothing will change, this is our Cup, whether they like it or not, and no one will stop us from winning it, there is nothing to discuss or bargain about, we will die for this trophy and whoever comes our way we will beat him,” said Babu.

“We are in the final already (even before we play in the semis), I know we will beat AFC Leopards in the semis, I don’t have any worries, I know we are taking it, our focus is on the Cup, we know it comes with continental football and so we don’t want to miss the chance, we only have two matches and the trophy will be in our cabinet.”

Asked whether he was under pressure to deliver the trophy, the former Sony Sugar tactician said: “I am not under any pressure, why should I be under pressure when I have players, who are doing their job perfectly? Mine is to give them morale and push them to deliver, I don’t have any pressure.”

Babu further explained why his squad has given him the confidence to do well this season. “I don’t like to change a winning team, this is the same team that defeated Sofapaka last time out, in the league, and so you cannot change the team unless you make one change but I want to stick with the squad, they are giving all, they are pushing themselves hard to get the result, so I don’t have any problem when picking my squad,” explained Babu.

“Even the players are confident of getting this Cup, it a shortcut to continental and everyone is giving his all, the performance has been good, and every player is clicking at the right time, look at Samuel Onyango, he is playing his level best and this is the kind of players we need now as the season comes to a close.”
