In what is deemed as a ploy to convince world football governing body Fifa that he is not guilty as charged, embattled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa organized a flawless tournament which came to its conclusion in Nairobi at the weekend.

Although it was by and large considered as a Johnny-come-lately and especially in the face of the indefinite ban imposed on Kenya by Fifa over government’s interference in the game, the event came as good riddance to most of the clubs which have been going round with begging bowls ever since football in Kenya lost its sheen.

All this time, prospective sponsors and especially gaming companies shied away from putting their money in the game for the simple reason that their brands were not going anywhere in terms of advertisements.

At the end of the showcase in Nairobi and which Mwendwa allegedly played a big role in its bankrolling, a resurgent Kenya Police FC beat Nairobi City Stars, aka Simba wa Nairobi, 2-0 thanks to two clinically executed goals by indefatigable striker David Simiyu and former AFC Leopards linkman Marvin Nabwire.
