Football Kenya Federation (FKF) yesterday wrote to Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed demanding explanation on the Sh430 million the CS claimed the government had given the federation.
In a letter signed by FKF Chief Executive Barry Otieno and addressed to the CS, FKF who are currently being audited for suspected misappropriation of funds, claimed that from their bank records, they had only received Sh 354 million from the Ministry of Sports in the last three years and not Sh 430 million Amina told the Committee on Sports and Tourism on Wednesday that they had sent to the federation, meaning that there is Sh77 that may be unaccounted for.
“Whereas the federation remains grateful for the support the Ministry of Sports has accorded the Kenya national teams thus far, our bank accounts records indicate that between 2019 and 2021 the federation received and accounted for Sh355,512,205 and not Sh433,500,000 as communicated by your good seld,” Otieno wrote in the letter dated October 28.
He added: “In light of the aforementioned and in order to reconcile and account the missing Sh77 million that was not received by FKF as part of Sh433, 500,000 figure shared with the Sports Tourism Parliamentary Committee, the federation wishes to request the Ministry of Sports and National Sports Fund, to furnish FKF with exchequer releases and bank details indicating where the Sh77 million meant to support the national teams were remitted, including a Sh9.5 million that was purportedly remitted to the federation to support the Harambee Stars in the Cecafa tournament, as the federation has no record of the remittance.”
Amina said the first disbursement from the kitty to the federation was Sh244.5 million for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The federation was further given Sh21.3 million to carter for the demands of the individuals who handled Harambee Stars as coaches at the moment.
