FOOTBALL: The contract of Tusker coach Robert Matano is set to be renewed after the management deemed it fit to do so following the team’s improved performance in the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League which is set to be concluded next week.

According to sources within the team, Matano’s pronunciation that he was on the verge of ditching the team caused a stir in the team’s camp with his detractors making an about-turn concerning his fate in the team.

Now, the management allegedly wants Matano to stick with the team on the promise that his contractual terms shall be improved. Tusker is the third most successful club in Kenya after Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards with a total of thirteen KPL titles and four Kenyan Cup titles to their name.

In addition, the team has won four CECAFA Clubs Cup titles and was on the brink of winning a continental gong in 1994 only to be beaten by Daring Club Motema Pembe in the final of the Africa Cup Winners Cup.

Known for their infamy of demanding overnight results from the team, some of Tusker’s top officials who were critical of Matano’s operations have regretted their actions and have ominously come to realize that should he move out, the team will move a downward spiral in the domestic league.

According to further reports, many KPL clubs and those outside the country, mostly in Burundi and Tanzania and Sudan, are drooling over the services of Matano but Tusker won’t let him go just yet due to his latest success.
