Will Tusker intoxicate Gor?

Gor Mahia and Tusker handlers have opted to size each other up as the teams lock horns in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) round-15 fixture in Kasarani today.

The anticipated pressure cooker encounter is easily the highlight of the mid-week action in which seven matches are on the card.

In the meantime, table-toppers Nzoia Sugar will be out to beat Kariobangi Sharks at Utalii grounds and maintain their top placing while hoping that second-placed Gor falter against third-placed Tusker.

Gor Coach Jonathan McKinstry said he gives respect to Tusker much as his counterpart Robert Matano holds K’ogalo in high esteem with both trainers anticipating a tough game.

“Tusker are difficult opponents and as such, we need to be at our best. Some may say they have dropped some points recently, but a wounded animal is the most dangerous type,” said McKinstry while oozing a little bit of confidence ahead of the match.

He added: “The guys are going into the game ready but we are confident we can put out another top performance”

“Gor is a very good side but let them know that we are thirsting to redeem ourselves. There is nothing to fear and despite it being a tough match, we have rectified our mistakes and also brought back our fighting spirit ahead of the game,” opined Tusker head coach Matano.

He went on, “The race is still on- those are the dynamics of football, sometimes you are up, sometimes you are down. For us, there was an element of creating chances and failure to translate the same into goals but I have fixed the problem.”

Gor have only lost once this season and have the best defence in the league conceding only four goals so far.

Tusker have had a patchy run of form recently after losing 0-3 to Kenya Police FC and drawing 1-1 with Kariobangi Sharks in their last two outings.

Having said that, Gor marksman Benson Omala, who is the leading scorer with 11 goals, will be only too eager to keep the fire burning and stop the second leading scorer in Kenya Police’s Elvis Rupia, who has plundered 10 so far, in his track.

Police host Nairobi City Stars in the early kick-off at Kasarani and this will serve as an opportunity for Rupia to extend his tally.
