Action in the 2021/22 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Premier League (KeWPL) is set to get underway today with exciting fixtures.

Two matches are programmed for today with three more are planned for tomorrow,

The matches involving Vihiga Queens have been postponed due to the club’s engagement in the ongoing Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League tournament in Egypt.

Defending champions Thika Queens will be heading into the new season with optimism and desire to go a notch higher this time around and successfully defend their title to avoid a repeat of the 2017 season where they surrendered their 2016 title to Vihiga Queens.

Thika Queens endured a five-year trophy-less period before bouncing back to win the 2021 title.

On Saturday, the Benta Achieng-coached Thika Queens welcome Kayole Starlets FC at Thika Sub-county Stadium today from 2.00 pm.

In Mumias, newly promoted Bunyore Starlets have a date with hosts Wadadia Ladies FC in a match that has all the ingredients of a thriller.

Bunyore Starlets Chief Executive Officer-cum- Manager Zachariah Amakanga was upbeat ahead of the clash.

“So far so good. We expect a tough clash since Wadadia are not pushovers. But all the same, this is a game that we can comfortably win with dedication amongst the players. Putting three points in the bag will be a big inspiration to the players,” said Amakanga.

In the meantime, last season’s finalists Gaspo Women have a lot in their hands as they take the battle to Kisumu All Starlets at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

However, Gaspo, who lost to reigning champions Thika Queens 3-0 in the postseason start favourites.

At Kenyata Stadium in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia Falcons FC will come face-to-face with Zetech Sparks FC as debutantes Kangemi Ladies FC host Ulinzi Starlets FC at Tusker ground in Ruaraka, Nairobi.  -Gibo Zachary
