World Cup ticket price: How much fans are paying to watch football matches in stadia
World Cup ticket prices are quite expensive by Kenyan standards. The prices vary according to the stages the football matches are being played.
The group stage matches, round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and the final match all have different ticket prices.
The opening match between the host nation Qatar and Ecuador, which was held at the Al Bayt Stadium on November 20, 2022, was also priced differently.
The world's football governing body FIFA grouped the ticket prices into four different categories; CAT1, CAT2, CAT3 and CAT4.
Tickets for CAT4 are reserved for residents of Qatar and they are also the cheapest.
Foreign fans pay more than locals to watch the matches in stadia.
Ticket prices for World Cup matches increase according to various stages of the games, with group stage matches being the cheapest while the final match will be the most expensive.
Foreigners who bought the cheapest ticket for group-stage matches paid Ksh8,441 while foreigners who will watch the final match will pay a staggering Ksh74,286 for the cheapest ticket.
The final match will be played on December 18, 2022, at the Lusail Stadium which has a capacity of 88,966 seats.
World Cup ticket prices are quite expensive because FIFA is also spending a lot of money paying the 32 national football teams that participated in the tournament.
FIFA set aside a staggering $440 million/Ksh53.9 billion for prize payouts for the 2022 World Cup, with $42 million/Ksh5.1 billion going to the winning team.
