Reigning Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Premier League champions Thika Queens will take on FKF Women’s Cup inaugural winners Ulinzi Starlets in the inaugural FKF Women’s Super Cup match scheduled for tomorrow at 2 pm at Utali Grounds, Nairobi.

The women’s first-ever Super Cup competition is scheduled to act as the official curtain raiser for the 2021-2022 FKF Women’s Premier League season which kicks off next weekend, November 13, 2021, and presents both teams with a chance to open the season with silverware.

“We’re fully prepared, considering that preparation is key to success. Thika Queens is a good side, we all know that but we’re equally a good side and we’re ready to face them.

They won the league unbeaten, and we won the FKF Women’s Cup unbeaten. So, this is a big match pitting two champions and, therefore, this being a knockout match, expect a good game,” Ulinzi Starlets head coach Joseph Wambua told People Sport.

The two teams earned the right to face off in the Super Cup by virtue of Thika Queens winning the 2020/2021 FKF Women’s Premier League title while Ulinzi Starlets stunned many by winning the inaugural 2021 FKF Women’s Cup title.

The Benta Achieng coached Thika Queens’ side were crowned champions after going the whole season unbeaten, topping  Zone A with 42 maximum points from 14 matches before beating newbies Nakuru Queens FC in the semifinal playoffs and Gaspo Women’s FC 3-0 in the final to recapture the league title while the Joseph Wambua coach Ulinzi Starlets side who were debuting in the women’s premier league in the 2020/2021 season, won the women’s domestic cup after edging out heavyweights Vihiga Queens 2-1 in the finals staged at the Nakuru ASK Showgrounds.

The two sides are yet to meet in a competitive match after Ulinzi took part in the league in their debut last season in Zone B-League while Thika Queens were playing in Zone A A-League, making the tie a tricky one but an entertaining encounter to look up to this Sunday.

Besides fighting for silverware in this match both teams will also be using the fixture to gauge their preparedness ahead of the new season where champions Thika Queens are set to kick off their title defence with a big match against familiar foes Kayole Starlets at Thika Sub-county Stadium while Ulinzi Starlets will be an away trip to take on newcomers Kangemi Ladies FC at Ruaraka Grounds, Nairobi.
