Uganda has beefed up security on a common border lake with Tanzania to prevent illegal entry amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a police spokesperson said here Thursday.

Fred Enanga, Uganda's police spokesperson, told reporters here that the police and military have deployed marine unit forces and increased patrols at Kasensero on Lake Victoria in the border district of Rakai.

Uganda last month closed its borders to avoid the importation of the novel coronavirus.

There have been reports of people infiltrating into Uganda through the porous borders.

Uganda currently has 81 confirmed cases of COVID-19 of which 52 have been discharged.  (Xinhua)
