Wajackoyah: I am not going to participate in presidential debate with Mwaure
Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has added a new twist to the planned presidential debate slated for July 2022.
Wajackoyah has issued conditions which he says must be fulfilled before he can participate in the presidential debate.
Speaking during an interview on NTV, the Root presidential candidate said he was not certain that he would take part in the July debate.
He stressed that he will only participate in the presidential debate if the leading contenders Raila Odinga and William Ruto also take part.
Wajackoyah further stated that he would not take part in the presidential debate if he is only pitted against Agano party flagbearer David Mwaure Waihiga.
"It will depend. Well if Ruto is there and Raila I will. But if Ruto and Raila are not am not going to participate with Mwaure," Wajackoyah said.
Wajackoyah follows in Ruto's footsteps
Deputy President William Ruto had early this month announced that he would not be taking part in the planned presidential debate.
Ruto through his Campaign Communications Director Hussein Mohammed claimed that Kenyan media houses had been biased in covering campaign rallies conducted by the Kenya Kwanza team.
"We have noted with much concern the repeated and continued bias and propaganda in a section of Kenya’s mainstream media in abuse of statutory. Under the current partisan media environment, we have advised our candidate against participating in the presidential debate," Hussein Mohammed said.
The Media Owners Association (MOA), Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) and Media Council of Kenya (MCK) announced that the 2022 Presidential Debate will happen in July without giving a specific date.
The organizers warned that it would be suicidal for any presidential candidates or any deputy presidential candidates not to participate in the debate.
