Wam**angi stops workers pay to trade unions
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi (pictured) has ordered workers contributions to trade unions stopped, while at the same time warning striking doctors to resume work or be fired.
The move that deals a blow to various labour organisations in the health sector, stops deduction of workers’ salaries for further remittance to the respective unions.
The affected organisations include the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) and the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO).

The Governor also instructed the County Public Service Board to advertise vacancies for positions such as medical officers, specialists/consultants, as well as other health services personnel, including clinical officers and laboratory technologists who fail to report back to work.
However, KMPDU officials scoffed at Governor Wamatangi’s threat to fire striking doctors and told members not to budge.
Led by the KMPDU Central branch Chairman James Githinji, the officials said they will not relent in their industrial action until their demands are met and vowed they would not be cowed threats to sack them.
