A majority of Kenyans consider the Woman Representative seat least important, a new survey by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) research firm shows.

The poll results released on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, show that the Woman Rep seat is perceived as least important to the Kenyan electorate with a rating of 32 per cent, followed by the Senator position at 15 per cent.

"Given all the media attention to the presidential contest, TIFA thought it useful to ask Kenyans which elective offices are most important for them," TIFA said.

A majority of Kenyans said they consider the position of governor important with an approval rate of 29 per cent, followed by the presidential seat at 28 per cent. The Member of County (MCA) seat is ranked third with a 21 per cent popularity rating.

"On the flip side, an overwhelming plurality considers the position of Women Rep of least importance (32%), followed by Senator (15%)," TIFA said.

The firm added: "Nearly twice as many men as women consider the position of Women Rep as least important (40% vs. 23%), but this figure from women is also the highest (negative) proportion among the six positions."

26 per cent of Kenyans polled were not able to decide on which elective seat between, President, Governor, Senator, MP, Woman Rep, Senator and MCA, is least important to them.

The firm conducted 2,268 telephone interviews between July 31 and August 1, 2022, across nine zones in the country. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 2 per cent.

The zones are Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western.
