JamboPay inks deal to collect revenue for Malawi’s city

Kenya’s fintech company, JamboPay and Blantyre City Council (BCC) have entered into a contract for the development and operation of an automated revenue collection infrastructure for the second largest city in Malawi.
The contract was signed between Web Tribe Ltd (JamboPay Holding company) and BCC in Blantyre City.
The Public-Private Partnership Commission of Malawi oversaw the procurement process.
The company will finance, build and operate the revenue collection infrastructure for Blantyre City for 10 years.
Increasing transparency
Speaking during the signing ceremony, BCC Mayor Wild Ndipo said the move to partner with JamboPay was geared towards increasing transparency in revenue collection and providing efficiency to the city council.
JamboPay CEO Danson Muchemi welcomed the partnership which he pointed out will lead to efficiency and transparency in revenue collection for the city.
“We look forward to deploying our many years of experience in electronic payments and our robust technology towards the realisation of better services and improved revenue collection by the BCC,” he told journalists.
Parking Payments will be among the services that will be digitised under the partnership.
JamboPay which has 11 years experience in electronic payments operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ghana.
It provides digital payments services to over 5,200 organisations, enabling revenue collection on mobile, web, banks and a network of independent agents.
The company has announced plans to list at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) in four years.
