UDA grassroots polls: Malala inspects progress in Homa Bay

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has landed in Homa Bay to inspect the progress of the party's grassroots elections.

The elections which are part of the party's efforts to strengthen its grassroots structure began in Homa Bay, Nairobi, West Pokot, Busia, and Narok counties today.

Speaking after the inspection, Malala expressed excitement over the number of voters who turned up for the party's elections despite the heavy downpour witnessed.

He expressed optimism that the voting exercise will run smoothly and encouraged voters to turn up in numbers to choose their leaders.

"Ningependa kusema kwamba tumefurahishwa sana na jinsi vile wanachama wa UDA wamejitokeza kwa wingi kuja kupiga kura katika kaunti tano ambazo tulikua tumesema ya kwamba kura itafanyika, kaunti ya West Pokot inaendelea vizuri kabisa. Changamoto kidogo ya mvua lakini wale officials wetu wa chama wameeza kuhakikisha kwamba wamejikaza na kujifikisha kaika kila polling. Kaunti ya Busia vile vile tumeweza kumake sure uchaguzi umeanza na tunaelekea kule kutoka hapa," he said.

"Tumekuja Homa Bay na nimeangalia kwamba watu wamejitokeza kwa wingi sana katika kituo hiki ambacho tulilead kupigia rais kura kwa ule uchaguzi uliopita. Nimeona wamejitokeza kwa wingi sasa hivi tumejipata na watu takriban mia mbili ambao wamejitokeza kupiga kura hapa na kusema tu kwamba tunahimiza kila mtu ajitokeze kwa wingi wamama vijana, wahakikishe kwamba wamekuja kuchagua viongozi wao."

The vocal politician also affirmed the party's commitment to ensuring free, fair and credible elections throughout the exercise and announced that an email address would be available for anyone discontented by the election process to file their complaint. He said all complaints should be filed 48 hours after polling stations close.

"UDA ni chama ambacho tunataka kuhakikisha kua tumekita mizizi katika kila eneo ya nchi yetu thats why tumekuja hapa kuhakikisha kwamba kila polling centre ya Homa Bay leo ifunguliwe watu wachague, baadae tutahakikisha kwamba kuna officials 20 20 kuhakikisha kwamba malalamishi yameangaliwa. Kama uko na malalamishi yoyote si lazima uende Nairobi. Utaandika malalamishi katika email ya [email protected] na ukishaandika hivo. Unafaa utoe malalamishi 48 hours after close of polling centre all complains should be filed before Sunday saa kumi na mbili," Malala added.

Further, the SG stated that the party was keen on dealing with disciplinary issues and as such the party had formed a disciplinary committee to deal with reckless behaviour including bribery of election officials.
