KeNHA taps Centunion in Sh3b fly-over deal
Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) contracted a Spanish company to construct a four lane fly-over on Langata Road and several footbridges at a cost of €23,250,000 (Sh3.13 billion) to ease transportation along the key road.
In a public notice on the agency’s twitter feed, KeNHA Director-General Peter Mundinia said the project will take 3 years to complete, and will be financed through a bilateral financial agreement between Spain and Kenya.
“The project is being implemented under Engineering Procurement and Construction/Turnkey Contract framework and was signed between KeNHA and the contractor, Ms Centunion Espanol de CoordinationTecnica Y Financiera. S.A of Spain at a contract sum of €23,250,000 and with a time completion of 36 months,” said Mundinia in the statement.
Foot bridges
The fly-over at the T-Mall comes with related footbridges across Mbagathi Way and at Nyayo Stadium, said Mundinia, adding that it was part of an integrated program to alleviate traffic congestion, increase pedestrian security and improve traffic flow on Langata road.
Mundinia, detailed designs of the fly-over have been finalised and mobilisation on the site is going on.
“The project consists of the upgrading of the Langata-Mbagathi-Mai Mahiu crossing by means of four –lane fly-over on Langata road and the expansion of the adjacent roads.
The project also comprises the construction of a footbridge on Mbagathi Way,” said Mundinia.
The construction will be implemented in seven main phases to ensure minimal traffic interruption, with sections of Langata Road around T-Mall area and Mbagathi Way being narrowed by means of fences, to allow construction works on the existing road medians and shoulders.
