The government’s plan to enhance industrialisation received a boost after KenGen and Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) launched an ambitious plan to establish a 342-hectare Green Energy Park yesterday.

The project to be constructed under a four-phase development plan covering 2025 to 2045 is set to spur and redefine industrialisation in the region through provision of a sustainable and clean source of geothermal energy.

KenGen chairman Julius Ogamba said the park presents an opportunity for investors seeking collaboration with the company to establish industries within a green energy-focused environment.
“The Green Energy Park project exemplifies KenGen’s commitment to shaping a more sustainable future,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for Green Energy Park in Olkaria, Naivasha.

Ogamba added that the facility aims to harness the abundant geothermal resources in Olkaria, providing a stable and renewable energy source for industries within the park. Kenya Kwanza government is fast-tracking an ambitious plan to establish Aggregations and Industrial Parks in the country’s 47 counties.

Ogamba said the partnership with KoTDA and the initiation of the park highlights the power of collaboration and the potential for positive change.

“This venture represents the first step towards a new era of industrialisation, one that places environmental sustainability at its core,” he added. KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Peter Njenga, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “Today marks a turning point in our journey towards sustainable development. The Green Energy Park is a testament to our dedication to innovation, collaboration, and responsible growth.”

He said this was an open invitation for investors to join KenGen in creating a greener, more prosperous future.

KoTDA, the pioneering investor of the Green Energy Park, has set in motion plans to establish the Eco Cloud Data Centre within the park.
