ANC distances itself from Savula’s utterances, claims he doesn’t speak for the party
Amani National Congress (ANC) party has distanced itself from recent utterances made by the party's deputy leader and Lugari MP Ayub Savula who claimed that Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala is pushing their party leader Musalia Mudavadi to support Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid.
In a public notice shared on social media by Malala, Mudavadi said that the statements made by Savula were his own thoughts and did not reflect the party's position.
He accused the lawmaker and some other party members of illegally acting as the party's spokespersons to spread misinformation regarding the matter.
"Certain members have erroneously assigned themselves the position of party spokesperson and issued statements that have since been circulated by print and electronic media outlets," Mudavadi said.
"Utterances by persons purporting to hold office and therefore speak for and on behalf of the party should be largely disregarded by the media. By this notice, we abrogate all utterances stated by Hon Ayub Angatia Savula in a purported capacity of deputy party leader," he added.
Mudavadi further revealed that all the party's official communications will, henceforth, be availed through his office and that of the party's Secretary General, Simon Kamau Gikuru.
Mudavadi's statement comes after Savula, over the weekend, claimed that Senator Malala is among MPs from Western Kenya holding secret meetings with DP Ruto's camp.
Savula claimed that Malala has been acting as the UDA's agent in One Kenya Alliance (OKA) with an aim of pushing Mudavadi out of the alliance and supporting Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.
