Chap Chap hints at working with Raila ‘for a better Kenya’

Maendeleo Chap Chap declared yesterday that it will back the Azimio La Umoja push spearheaded by Opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Speaking after holding a meeting with party officials, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said the outfit has resolved to work with Raila, as they believe in his ideologies of making Kenya better.
“We are a party that believes in changing the lives of the less privileged Kenyans. We have looked around and the only person we believe can change this country is Raila. He has been there and we know once he ascends to power he will make Kenya a better place,” said Mutua.
Mutua said his party will soon launch a manifesto, which they will share with Raila as part of a coalition agreement.
“We are not going to work with Raila just blindly. This week we will be launching our manifesto, which we will later hand over to the former Prime Minister in January during our National Delegate’s Conference,” he explained.
At the Coast, the newly formed Pamoja African Alliance party yesterday said it was ready to enter into a political pact with other like-minded parties in the 2022 elections.
Party leadership affirmed that it will not field a presidential candidate but will partner with other aspirants, who they say must promise to address their challenges once they form the next government.
Speaking while addressing party delegates from all coastal counties at the PAA headquarters in Mombasa, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, the party patron, said Coast region will not be left out in the formation of the next government.
“We are used to rallying behind others but this time we have said enough is enough. We are ready to move forward with a vision that leads us to the next government,” said Kingi.
Former legislators
The party has assembled former legislators in the entire region to steer its agenda forward.
Coast has for more than a decade rallied behind the ODM party led by Raila.
Lucas Maitha, former Malindi legislator, who read the resolution of the meeting, said that they resolved that they were ready to work with any political formation that resonates with their course.
“We have decided that we will move as a force, and we welcome other candidates, including Raila and Deputy President William Ruto come as partners. We are ready to work with whoever agrees to help address challenges bedevilling the region,” he added.
