Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho's cousin Mohammed Amir has joined Deputy President William Ruto's camp and is intending to run for the Mombasa senate seat under United Democratic Alliance(UDA) ticket.

Amir's move comes as a shocker to many because his cousin, Joho is not only a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) but also the vice-chair of the party.

According to UDA, Amir was welcomed into the party by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.

"Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's brother UDA declaring interest in the county's Senate position. He was received by former Mombasa Senator," UDA said.

According to UDA, Amir said that he is a strong believer in Ruto's bottom-up economic model.

Amir becomes the third member of the Joho's family to join politics. Governor Joho's elder brother Abuu Joho also joined politics in 2017 when he vied for the parliamentary seat.

Unlike Amir, Abuu joined the governor in ODM and flew the party's flag in the parliamentary seat but was beaten by independent candidate Mohamed Ali.
