Outgoing Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has taken issue with politicians defecting to Kenya Kwanza Alliance after the victory of presidential flag bearer William Ruto.

Jumwa, in a statement on Monday, September 5, dismissed the last-minute defectors as opportunists, who want to reap where they did not sow.

Jumwa throws shade at Kingi

In a veiled attack on former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, who joined Ruto's Kenya Kwanza camp months before the August 9 polls, the outspoken legislator said the coast region will be counted because she stood firm with the President-elect.

"Congratulations my president and my boss. The Coast region will be counted because I stood Firm, Strong, Unbowed and Unshakeable with the President-Elect from the day he needed all and no one was there for him," Jumwa said in a Facebook post moments after Ruto's win was upheld by the Supreme Court.

"Wengine nikujipendekeza lakini mkulima huwa mmoja walaji ni wengi. Karibuni tule sote jamani. One Kenya, One President and One People. Mungu Mbele!"

Jumwa's political rivalry with Kingi played out publicly severally in Kenya Kwanza's campaigns in the coast region.

Kingi’s Pamoja African Alliance entry into Kenya Kwanza in May marked the genesis of the relentless wars between the then governor and Jumwa, who unsuccessfully ran for the Kilifi governor's seat on Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

Pundits say the conflict between the two leaders handed Gideon Mung'aro of the Orange Democratic Alliance (ODM) party a smooth sail in the governor's race. ODM party is a member of the Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya coalition, which Kingi ditched.

Ruto welcomes defectors

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance recently received new members, who defected from Azimio after Ruto's victory.

Some of the new entrants include United Democratic Movement (UDM) party led by Mandera Senator-elect Ali Roba and David Ochieng's Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party.

Former governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) have also pledged allegiance to Ruto.
