President Uhuru Kenyatta's Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has confirmed that he will be contesting for the Machakos Gubernatorial seat.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Nzioka said that he will resign from his position as the president's aide next week to throw his heart in the political arena.

"I come from Machakos County and I want to go back home and vie for the governorship," Nzioka said.

Nzioka said that though he does not have much experience in the political world as compared to competitors in the gubernatorial race, he said that he will use the experience he got from the public service to serve the people of Machakos.

He further noted that Machakos county does not need a politician but an administrator like him to deliver to the electorates.

"I just want to go and look after the money for my people and make sure that they get the services that they need," he said.

Speaking on the political party he will use to champion his political ambitions, the Chief of Staff noted that he has not picked any yet but he will use one that is friendly to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"My heart and conscience will not allow me to stray far away from the President. I would not turn my back on him," he asserted.

Nzioka will compete against UDA chairman Johnson Muthama and Wiper party's Wavinya Ndeti in the race to succeed Alfred Mutua who is serving his second term.
