Raila: I hereby declare March 20 public holiday
Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya alliance party leader Raila Odinga has unlawfully declared Monday, March 20 a public holiday.
Speaking during a political rally on Tuesday, March 14, Odinga stated that the mass action protests are still on and Monday will not be a normal working day for their supporters.
"I hereby declare, in the name of Azimio one Kenya Alliance, We declare that Monday, March 20 will be a public holiday," Raila stated.
He noted the protests will be peaceful.
"We do not want any kind of violence or bloodshed. It is going to be peaceful. We are only doing this because it is the only alternative that we have."
Raila made the announcement following a request from his 2022 presidential running mate Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua.
Karua had argued that Kenyans need a holiday to allow them time to join in the demonstrations and fight for their rights
"I'm asking Raila to declare Monday, March 20th a national holiday. Kenyans should not be expected to work and protest. We need to do this once and for all. Stealing of votes should come to an end.
"If you are confident you won the elections, open the servers and prove yourself. Kenyans will be exercising their constitutional rights to seek the truth. I'm pleading with all Kenyans to come out in numbers for the mass action," she stated.
The quotes were loosely translated from her Kiswahili verbatim;
"Mimi naomba baba atangaze tarehe ishirini iwe holiday. Hatuwezi kuandamana tukifuata haki yetu na tuende kazi. Iyo siku your Excellency twakuomba ikuwe holiday.
