Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga claims behind-the-scene talks between opposition leader Raila Odinga and Presidents William Ruto and his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu ended anti-government demos.

Speaking on Kameme TV's breakfast show on November 2, 2023, Maina Njenga said he was made the Director of Operations during the anti-government demos that were organized by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance early this year.

Njenga additionally revealed that after holding a series of anti-government protests, Raila onetime asked him to suspend the demos as he went to meet Presidents Ruto and Suluhu in Nanyuki.

However, Njenga claimed that Ruto failed to show up in Nanyuki for the meeting with Raila and Suluhu.

"After a series of demonstrations, one day Raila told me to suspend the protests and he went to meet Presidents Samia Suluhu and William Ruto in Nanyuki but Ruto didn’t turn up," Maina Njenga said.

The former Mungiki leader claimed that Raila later flew to Tanzania to meet Suluhu before he had another meeting with Ruto in Mombasa.

"Raila flew to Tanzania and held a meeting with President Suluhu and an agreement was arrived at. Plans were made to have Raila and President Ruto meet in Mombasa. After both met in Mombasa, Raila told me to stop the demonstration as they had made some agreement with President Ruto," Maina Njenga said.

Maina Njenga's revelation comes three months after Raila Odinga made similar claims.

Speaking on July 25, 2023, while addressing the international media on the political crisis, Raila claimed that Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu had been in Kenya two weeks earlier for a bi-partisan talk with the Kenya Kwanza faction.

However, the Azimio leader alleged that President Ruto totally snubbed Suluhu during her visit.

Raila said Suluhu was left hanging for the two days she was in the country and no mediation of the bi-partisan talks took place.

"She was kept waiting. We were available but the other faction was not available. Suluhu spent two nights here but it was all in vain," Raila said.

It was the first time Raila outrightly spoke of Suluhu's visit which was not made public.
