National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has cautioned people from the Mt Kenya region against putting their trust in Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 General Elections.

Speaking during his three-day tour in Meru, Muturi claimed that Ruto cannot be trusted with ruling the country, explaining that electing him into office could be a great mistake.

Muturi, who is also a presidential candidate in the 2022 race further claimed that the DP is like a wolf in a sheep coat who might turn against the people if elected as president.

He told residents that his previous interactions with Ruto painted a different picture compared to the ones he (Ruto) gives electorates in his campaign rallies. He claimed that Ruto doesn't have the country's interest at heart.

Muturi also warned leaders from the mountain against folding their parties to join Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He claimed that there is a likelihood of Ruto turning against them if he clinches power.

"I now hear that you have come up with a national party. I haven't mentioned any specific politician from this region, but I am aware that there is no angel in that party," he said.

"Today he (Ruto) approaches you, enticing you with jokes, but when he wins the elections, you know what will happen. You will be locked outside," Muturi added.

The speaker emphasized the importance of political coalitions noting that governments can only be formed using alliances. According to him, national parties which Ruto is advocating for can only lead to discrimination and betrayals.
