Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege says elected leaders in the former ruling Jubilee party are orphans amid leadership wrangles in the outfit.

Speaking during an interdenominational church service at Isiolo Boys High School on Sunday, May 21, 2023, the former Murang'a Woman Representative said former President Uhuru Kenyatta had neglected the leaders.

While criticizing Uhuru over his political dalliance with Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga, the MP urged the former head of state to come back to the party and assume an advisory role.

“As Jubilee members, we respect our former party leader but his six months at the apex of leadership lapsed and we will soon go to the grassroots for an overhaul in the party leadership.

“I supported you Uhuru until the last moment and I beg you since you are old, to be advising us instead of partaking in demonstrations,” Chege told Uhuru.

At the same time, Chege pleaded with President William Ruto, a former member of the Jubilee party, to accommodate Jubilee leaders when they knock on his door.

“You have been our friend and we are the ones who have been left at Jubilee the party you helped co-found.

“We are orphans but I want to assure you that we are reviving the party that you left for us,” Chege said.

The MP said her faction of the Jubilee party would continue to support the Kenya Kwanza government because Uhuru transferred power to Ruto peacefully.

“We will continue supporting Ruto because our party leader Uhuru gave him the instruments of power. We therefore cannot say we do not respect the President,” she added.

Chege was recently announced as the new Jubilee leader albeit in an acting capacity by a faction led by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega.

The Kanini Kega-led camp insists that they are the bonafide leaders of the Jubilee party after the suspension of Vice Chairperson David Murathe and Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.

On Sunday, Chege maintained that a National Delegates Convention (NDC) convened by the Kioni group and set for tomorrow, May 22, remains suspended.

“Tomorrow there will be no NDC so disregard the notice that was sent out as it is propaganda. Those who will attend it will just be a normal political rally,” she remarked.

President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua were among senior government officials who graced the Sunday service.
