Woman Rep Gedi shocks parliament as she claims Ruto is serial land grabber
Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi on Tuesday took Parliament by storm after she alleged that Deputy President William Ruto is a land grabber and a corrupt leader.
Gedi made the accusation when the House was debating on the delay of allotment letter to residents of Msambweni Constituency.
While making her submission on the matter, the lawmaker said that the issue of land grabbing in the country is common and those involved are well-known politicians including the DP.
Gedi accused Ruto of grabbing lands in parts of the country including in Laikipia, Nairobi and Taita Taveta.
"When we talk about land grabbing, we know the people who grabbed land, including the land that belongs to students...we know who owns the land in Taita Taveta, we know who grabbed land in Laikipia. It is the same person," she said.
Her submission did not, however, sit well with Ruto's allies in the house who challenged her to withdraw her statement and apologise to DP Ruto noting that her allegations were unsubstantiated.
"It is only right for Gedi to either substantiate or withdraw and apologise...Especially for naming the leader of the biggest coalition and the leading coalition that is about to form government in 2022," Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah said.
Gedi, however, stood her ground saying that she is ready to provide evidence to substantiate her allegation.
“Mr Speaker, it is public domain that one William Samoei Ruto grabbed public land including Lang’ata Primary. I have no apology to make about that. I can provide the details,” Gedi said.
“You have a corrupt presidential candidate. Kwendeni huko” she added before resuming her seat.
The Woman Rep further informed the House that she would be ready to give the National Assembly evidence of her allegations in the next two days.
