What inspired you to get into wedding photography?

I love capturing memorable moments and weddings are some of them. I love seeing brides relaxed on their big day. I started my business seriously towards the end of 2017. It’s always tough starting a business, especially getting clients, but I love celebrating love, which motivated me to push on.

How different is wedding photography from other types of photography?

All photography is beautiful as it’s all about memories and capturing amazing shots. Wedding photography is quite different and a bit challenging compared to other types of photography as one is tasked with capturing moments in one of the most important days of people’s lives.

Dealing with couples can be a bit emotional and makes one vulnerable. The purity in emotions is something that can’t just be accessed in other kinds of photography. It’s passion that drives one to wedding photography.

What are some of the memorable moments you’ve encountered?

Every wedding is memorable and unique it its own way. Its amazing how simple moments turn out to be magical.

What are the challenges of wedding photography?

The greatest one is working with a client who does not know what they want. Such instances require understanding and also helping the client find what they like.

We are also faced with others where the client desires shots they’ve seen on the Internet, which sometimes might not be easy to deliver. The work also goes with seasons, and while some months may be busy, others maybe completely dry, which means one has to be wise to know what to do in the dry months.

In addition, weddings can be mentally or physically exhausting, as you spend nearly a whole day following a couple and documenting their experiences.

Sometimes you can have two or more weddings following each other. There are also times I encounter clients who demand more in terms of services compared to their budget.

What is the craziest request you’ve ever received?

There was this time a client asked me to give them five A4 photo leather books, and on the day of the wedding, to be at her place by 3am and leave at 2am!

How did you handle that?

Thankfully, her small sister drove sense into her by telling her that she was unrealistic, and becoming a bridezilla.

What are some things a couple should know before booking a photographer?

Couples should always have an open mind, and also, it would be good to have an open budget. They should ensure they check out the photographer’s work, as well as find their own unique style and what works for them. This will help them know if a photographer will deliver what they desire.

Other tips you can offer?

One of the mistakes I have seen couples make is having different photo shoot locations or venues that are far apart. I would advise finding one location for everything, so as to have ample time for the photo shoot. It’s frustrating for a photographer to capture moments in a hurry.

Secondly, they should ensure the time scheduled for make-up and hair is properly planned, as that’s also another area where they go wrong. Plan for the whole thing way before, to avoid being in a rush.

Lastly, hire professional vendors who understand the value of time, as everything in the wedding always adds up to creating a memorable experience.
