“Brilliant and humorous”, tributes high as UoN don Ken Ouko departs

Renowned University of Nairobi lecturer Dr.Ken Ouko has succumbed to Covid-19.

Tributes flowed on social media Saturday morning with most mourners describing him as "brilliant and humorous".

The senior lecturer at UoN's Department of Sociology was confirmed dead by on Saturday morning his family, and UoN's corporate communication department.

“UoN lecturer and sociologist Dr.Ken Ouko has died of Covid-19 complications,” UoN communications director John Orindi said.

The lecturer breathed his last at the Aga Khan Hospital where he was admitted for coronavirus treatment.

People known to him described don Ken Ouko as a soft-spoken and eloquent person who got along well with people.

University of Nairobi student's body president Ann Mvurya described Dr.Ouko as a lively don who induced sense of humour in his lessons.

Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni mourned Dr.Ouko as his friend and condoled with the deceased's family.

A Twitter user Wanja Douglas who identified himself as his former student said he once bought him(Dr.Ken) water worth Sh. 60 and the don gave him Sh3000 in a show of gratitude.

"His classes the funniest. Remember once I bought him water worth Ksh. 60 and he gave me Sh. 3000. I'll fondly remember Dr. Ken Ouko(sic)," @Douglas posted on Twitter Saturday morning.

As an outspoken don, Dr.Ouko had made several appearances on national televisions, news blogs, and other media outlets.

At a national level, don Ouko was a commentator on topical matters mainly involving morality and politics, a niche whose expertise he was known for.
