Three family members were electrocuted on Saturday when they came in contact with a metallic cloth line in Homa Bay.

Police said Elijah Otieno, Isaiah Otieno and their sister-in-law Lavender Otieno all from Nyatwere village were killed as a result of poor electricity power connection. According to witnesses, Lavender was the first to be electrocuted when she went to remove her clothes from the line.

The clothesline had been connected with the iron sheet from her house, which according to police, appeared to have a flowing live current as a result of poor power connection.

She screamed for help, prompting the two brothers to rush to her rescue, oblivious of the danger. Police said they were also electrocuted the moment they touched her.

“Preliminary investigations show that the wiring was poorly and unprofessionally done. The bodies were taken to Rachuonyo South Sub-County mortuary awaiting postmortem as investigations begin,” police said.
