Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi barricaded herself in the office after a section of MCAs allied to Governor Mike Sonko sought to serve her with an impeachment motion to be tabled on Tuesday afternoon when the assembly resumes sittings.

On Monday, July 27, MCAs allied to Elachi, numbering about 30, wanted to impeach Governor Sonko.

However, tables seem to have turned after reps allied to Sonko gave notice to table motion to impeach Speaker Elachi on several grounds, chief among them violation of the law in the appointment of a clerk.

The MCAs accuse Elachi of blocking them from accessing the Assembly, working with cartels to undermine Sonko and constantly failing to bring peace to the assembly since her return from impeachment.

Chaos broke out in the morning after the anti-Elachi MCAs were denied access to City Hall.
