Chepalungu lawmaker Gideon Koskei has lost his bid to defend his seat on Chama Cha Mashinani ticket after losing on nominations.

Koskei, popularly known as Sonko, was floored by Victor Koech alias Mandazi who narrowly lost to him in 2017 CCM nominations.

Koech garnered 24, 171 votes against the incumbent’s 15,348, in which the only female contender, Ann Koskei, come last with paltry 643 votes.

Mandazi was handed an interim certificate at Makimeny Girls Secondary School where he expressed optimism that he would beat the United Democratic Alliance party nominee John Bii, who was also in the race in 2017 under a Jubilee party ticket but lost.

Sonko, however, said he doubted the authenticity of the nomination process, claiming he has not conceded defeat although he did not disclose his next step of action.

On the other hand, Koech invited him to remain in CCM and work towards retaining Chepalungu constituency as CCM stronghold.
