Tuberculosis (TB) cases in Nyandarua county have been on the rise with last year recording a 17 percent increase over the previous year.

County Executive for Health Services Dr Kariuki Gichuki said 811 new cases were recorded last year compared to 696 reported in 2022.

Gichuki said of the 811 cases 116 or 14.3 per cent were children.

The Executive further revealed that five cases of drug-resistant TB were recorded last year.

He urged residents to take individual responsibility for their health by visiting health facilities nearest to them for regular check-ups against Tuberculosis.

Gichuki was speaking during celebrations to mark World Tuberculosis Day at Kasuku Health Centre in Weru Ward, Ol’jororok Sub-County, on Monday.

He said the County government has invested in a system and workforce to adequately manage TB cases.

He said the theme for this year’s celebrations conveys a message of hope that it is possible to change the trajectory of the epidemic through high-level leadership, increased investments, fast adoption of new recommendations from the World Health Organization, adoption of innovations, accelerated action and multi sectoral collaboration.
