Coronavirus: Kenya to import ventilators as cases rise to 42
The World Bank shall donate 250 ventilators for the treatment of COVID-19 in Kenya. Currently, the country has 4active novel coronavirus cases. One of the patients succumbed.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on March 29, confirmed the latest four which have brought the country's total to 42.
According to CS Kagwe, the latest cases are of three foreigners (American, Cameroonian and Burkinabe) and one Kenyan citizen.
"We have confirmed four more cases that has brought the total to 42. Most of the cases are now in Nairobi County," said Kagwe.
Of the active 41, 23 are male and 18 are female.
Nationwide, Nairobi County leads in Covid-19 cases with 31, followed by Kilifi(six), Mombasa(three), then Kajiado and Kwale with each a case.
So far Kenya has 1426 suspected cases but 215 have already been released after the end of 14-day quarantine. Kagwe also confirmed 2050 cases that are under quarantine.
The CS angrily dispelled claims by Dagoretti South Member of Parliament (MP) John Kiarie who had on Sunday posted that over 7000 people are on quarantine. MP Kiarie was later arrested by police.
During his Sunday update, CS Kagwe revealed measures by the government and partners to import ventilators. Ventilators are mechanical breathing machines used when the lungs are in suppressed condition.
People arriving in the country from abroad have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated hotels. The CS revealed that medics on Sunday tested those on quarantine.
