Coronavirus: Ministry to issue guidelines for home-based patient care

The Health Ministry will issue guidelines for home-based coronavirus patient care.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said on Sunday seeing the necessity of treating Covid-19 patients at home as healthcare facilities may get overwhelmed.

CS Kagwe confirmed 260 more coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 4,738.

Marking 100 days since the first case was reported in the country, the CS said the virus will stretch Kenya's health care system.

"Today, we have registered 260 positive cases from a sample of 3,651 tested in the last 24 hours. We now have a total of 4,738 positive cases in the country. Cumulatively, 140,012 samples have been tests so far," he said Sunday.

Out of the 260 cases, 254 are Kenyans and six are foreigners. 176 are males and 84 are females. The youngest case is a 7 month old infant, and the oldest is 90-year-old.

The virus has claimed 123 lives in the country.

During the briefing, the CS commended innovations and the response to the coronavirus.
