County mobilises resources as coronavirus pandemic persists

Taita Taveta County Government has embarked on resource mobilisation to stock pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical products as well as foodstuff to cushion residents from effects of Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking while flagging off a disinfection exercise in Taveta Sub-county, county Health Executive John Mwakima said Governor Granton Samboja would lead the exercise to ensure that the county is well prepared in the event a case is reported in the area.
The Executive said the county is leaving nothing to chance given its proximity to the border with Tanzania.
“We have put up a series of measures including mandatory screening of all travellers using the Mombasa-Nairobi highway and Rombo-Taveta road in addition to other screening points at the Standard Gauge Railway stations and the Holili-Taveta One Stop Border Post,” Mwakima said.
Quarantine individuals
Last week on Friday, the county government established three mandatory screening points at Manyani and Miasenyi on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway and at Njukini, the border post town of Taveta, where they dispatched a team of healthcare workers who are working alongside Kenya Red Cross officials.
At the same time, the county through the Department of Health Services, is working in partnership with the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)Taveta Campus, to quarantine individuals who may have come into contact with Covid-19 patients.
Mwakima said the quarantine facility has the capacity to accommodate 100 patients.
Support the vulnerable
Last week, representatives from each Sub-county Rapid Response Team held an interactive engagement with the County Health Administration at Taveta KMTC to identify any shortcomings in preparation to combating the virus.
This comes even as the county government has joined hands with the National government, non-governmental organisations and various well-wishers to support vulnerable groups during the crisis, such as persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), the elderly, women and children.
