Nyanza Branch Kenya Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union ( KMPDU) chairman, Dr Kevin Osuri.

Nyanza Branch Kenya Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union ( KMPDU) officials have threatened to sue Nyamira county government for allegedly failing to obey court orders to address the plight of doctors to ease their suffering.

The Union’s chairman, Dr Kevin Osuri said Justice Mathews Nduma Nderi, sitting in Kisumu had ordered that the county provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other regalia, promote and shun harassing and intimidating them.

Speaking to the press at a Kisii hotel yesterday, the official noted the county government had failed to address the grievances of the Doctors, who have been on strike for 57 days.

He said the court had ordered the county officers to dialogue with doctors so that they can resolve the matter amicably but county officers had ignored it.

“The doctors strike is still on until the county government under governor John Nyagarama effects the orders for the Doctors to return to work,” Osuri, adding the court had ruled the strike was legal and protected.

The chairman, flanked by Dr Lameck Omweri, Union’s Secretary, Peter Morebu, Treasurer and Frank Nyakagwa, Trustee said the Union will be forced to petition senator Okong’o Omogeni and Woman Representative, Jerusha Momanyi to support it for county’s health services revert to the national government.

He deplored negligence in the health sector in the county, adding that seven medical doctors in the branch and several members of the public had succumbed to the deadly Covid-19, creating fear and uncertainty.

Osuri said the county government had closed offices and left some health work at their work stations, claiming the county government was putting the lives of health workers at risk and yet there is no workmanship compensation for those who died.

The official urged the governor to hasten and obey the orders so that the Doctors can resume work to ease the suffering of patients.
