Leaders from Nyamira County have expressed their anger and disappointment over an upsurge of defilement cases in the area.

They noted that it was annoying that all those behind the defilement cases were married men aged between 30 and 74 years. The leaders led by Nyamira county Woman Representative Jerusa Momanyi, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and a governor aspirant Dr. Walter Chanua also accused some parents, healthcare workers and police of being compromised by the defilers to defeat justice.

Speaking to journalists in Nyamira town, Momanyi also took issue with courts accusing them of giving lenient sentences to defilement convicts.

“It is sad that hardly a day passes without a defilement case being reported in Nyamira county and worse still, by old men who are also parents,” Momanyi stated.

She also expressed her anger that some rogue parents, medics and police were being bribed to conceal evidence against those implicated in the vice.

Nyamoko on his part said that his constituency was the most hit with defilement cases with hardly a day passing without a defilement case being reported.

“I am calling for the immediate investigation of some medical officers at Ekerenyo sub-county hospital who were tampering with evidence after being compromised by the defilers,” he demanded.
