Governor Wam**angi asks Gachagua to plead with Ruto to declare ongoing floods national disaster

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has asked Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to plead with his boss President William Ruto to declare the ongoing floods a national disaster.

Addressing a congregation during a church service and fundraiser at Saint Mark New Kamiti Church on Sunday, May 5, 2024, the governor also asked the deputy president to allocate emergency funds to the county governments to help mitigate the effects of the floods by repairing bridges among other measures.

"Wakati mnakutana na rais wetu leo, tafadhali, ,uulize kwa heshima ya kwamba vile mlifanya hivi juzi sisi unasema ni vizuri, tafadhali declare this floods a national disaster and then mutuachilie some bit of money ili emergency funds iongezeke ndio sisi tueze kuungana nao viongozi wa administration yako tumalizane na hii kazi. The closest person your excelllency who can reach to the last bridge at the last minute is the county government tukifanya kazi na hao," he said.

Additionally, the Kiambu governor assured the DP of his support and affirmed that all leaders in the Mount Kenya region were fully behind his unity efforts.

Wamatangi also pointed out that he was fully committed to serving the people of Kiambu thus he did not have time to engage in divisive politics. He further emphasized the importance of unity in the Mount Kenya region rallying all leaders in the region to support Gachagua.

"I want to say as governor as long as you are sitting on that seat usifikishiwe fitina na mtu yeyote. Tunanyamazanga kwa sababu tunapenda amani, na mimi ni mzee, nimekaa kwa mambo ya uongozi kwa muda sasa sina haja ya kupiga kelele niko na haja ya kusaidia watu wa Kiambu but you have my assurance as long as you sit in that position you have my 100 percent support and my people hawa wa Kiambu tutakushikilia mpaka mwisho," he added.

On his part, Gachagua encouraged Mount Kenya leaders to unite and embrace one another adding that any division could attract serious consequences.

He further promised to convene a reconciliation meeting with a section of leaders from the region to iron out any pending issues within them.

"Let us unite and embrace each other as the people of Mount Kenya. Division among us could have serious consequences. This is a time for nationwide service delivery and leaders must unite to foster development. For Kiambu, I will engage all leaders in my office for fruitful discussions," the DP added.
