The row between Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa over the management of the county has escalated after a section of MCAs urged the latter to keep off administration of the local government.

Wamatangi and Ichung’wa have been embroiled in a seething racket over alleged poor administration of the devolved unit.

He is said to have been hatching a scheme to have Wamatangi ousted for failing to meet the needs of the people through his alleged ‘dictatorial leadership’.

Ichung'wah has among other issues been pointing fingers at the governor for allegedly failing to plan his government, a situation he has on several occasions said has made the county lose millions in funding from the national government and the World Bank.

Last year, Ichung'wah accused Wamatangi of delaying the implementation of various projects meant to improve the livelihood of residents under the guise of planning his government.

"Our governor has the worst lies which I really hate. We sent him an ACK bishop to help him stop lying to people. Stop telling us you're planning, execute," he said in November last year.

While Ichung’wa has been pointing fingers at Wamatangi for allegedly slowing development projects in the county, Kiambu MCAs, on the other hand, accuse the national assembly majority leader of sowing discord among them.

MCAs back Wamatangi

Led by Kiambu County assembly majority leader Godfrey Mucheke, MCAs from Kiambu insist that Ichung’wa has been seeking to collapse Wamatangi’s administration in a scheme to advance his selfish political interest.

The MCAs at the same time took issue with Ichung’wa for reportedly insulting and demeaning them after they failed to support his bid to oust Wamatangi.

“We know his plan has been to see Wamatangi ousted for him to successfully achieve his selfish political interests. He has been insulting and undermining MCAs who don’t dance to his tunes but we will not be cowed by his threats,” Mucheke said.

Speaking at Premier Bag grounds in Juja during the issuance of bursary cheques to beneficiaries, the MCAs called on Ichung’wa to be modest enough and allow Wamatangi to pursue his development agenda for the people insisting that the supremacy battles will only thwart developments.

According to Kennedy Odhiambo alias Odhis who is the MCA for Kahawa Sukari, Ichung’wa should stop interfering with the operations of the county and should leave the county’s oversight role to the MCAs who are constitutionally mandated to keep the governor in check.

“We know how he has been belittling other MPs by stealing roads belonging to their constituency to his. He will not intimidate us nor will he sell fear to the governor. We are behind Wamatangi and we will not allow external influences to interfere with our work as the local government,” Odhiambo said.

The MCAs called on President William Ruto to dethrone Ichung’wa from his majority leader’s position over misconduct and belittling his juniors saying that instead of using it to lobby developments for his home county, he has continuously used it to advance his selfish interests.

On his part, Wamatangi who was present during the event vowed to stay put in his pursuit of guarding and protecting public resources.

He revealed that his political opponents have been scheming all manner of ills against him after he failed to surrender public property including land parcels to private developers.

"I told all the public land grabbers to return what belongs to the people and I vowed to battle them until the last minute. I also decided that public money would not be squandered by ghost and fake tenderpreneurs. I told them that I don't want their affiliation. I told them to look for another person to steal with and not Wamatangi. Fight me, insult me, and do all manner of things but I won't release the key to the store of what belongs to Kiambu residents. I have nothing to worry about; I belong to God," Wamatangi said in a past event.

The county boss said he will focus on developing and improving the livelihoods of Kiambu people saying that his administration has already increased bursary allocation to beneficiaries from Ksh2,000 in the former regimes to between Ksh5,000 and Ksh10,000 for every student going forward.

“The era of issuing Ksh2,000 bursary has come to an end. From this year, we shall be issuing between Ksh5,000 and Ksh10,000 to the needy to enable them to continue with their studies uninterrupted. We want to improve the standards of our education,” Wamatangi said.
